Mae hiraeth yn y môr a'r mynydd maith

Amdana i | About me

I am a proud Welshman and it is the landscapes and seascapes of Wales provide the inspiration and drive my passion for outdoor photography. It is what gets me up before dawn to hike up a mountain and what makes hours of waiting patiently for weather conditions to develop worthwhile. I aim for the images on this website to evoke a sense of relevance and hiraeth for those that live in or have visited Wales whilst also inspiring further exploration of this beautiful country.
Being originally from Llanelli, the seaside is a natural draw and exploring the Wales Coastal Path continues to excite me and features heavily in my photography. However, living within half an hour of the Brecon Beacons, this is also a natural draw. From the cascades of Waterfall Country to the summits of the Pen y Fan massif,  it seems to produce something different on every visit.
Like many landscape photographers, wide-angle shots and vistas make up a large proportion of my images. Recently, I have, however been drawn to focusing on negative space and isolating individual features of the landscape with the aim of producing more original takes on familiar scenes.
My camera is a Canon 6D and I use a variety of wide angle and telephoto Canon L lenses. Where possible I try to keep the majority of exposure alterations in camera using the Lee and Formatt-Hitech filters.
British Photography Awards
I was extremely proud to be invited to the BPA awards in the Savoy hotel in London with my image of the Isle of Skye in Scotland on a shortlist of four images for the Landscape Photography Award. This in itself was a great honour given the thousands of photographers that had entered however it was an even greater surprise to hear my name announced as the winning photographer. Take a look at the winning image as well as a ffotoblog from my trip to Skye.
S4C
I was  recently asked to launch the Heno Spring Photography Competition on S4C which I will also be judging. Click here for a feature they did on my approach to photography and the British Photography Award.
Published Work
Discover Cymru started as an Instagram feed promoting Welsh photographers with a passion for landscapes. At the beginning of 2017 they launched discovercymru.co.uk which aims to become a hub for those discovering and taking images of Wales, check out the Meet the Photographer feature they did on me.
I have had images displayed in various publications including Breathe Magazine and Outdoor Photographer. I was also shortlisted this year for Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition, and have been fortunate to have one of my images selected for the Outdoor Photographer of the Year: Portfolio III book. The selected image, seen below, is my proudest to date and is of the Dragon's Breath in the Brecon Beacons.
